'Labor Party Results... without parallel'

The 2019 Australian May election saw a sitting conservative government returned by a majority of one seat. It is interesting to consider the role of independents or to theorise about the swing of 1.17% against the opposition Labor Party but the most significant element of this swing was its minute size.

The Australian Labor Party has now done well in three out of four recent elections. On their own, in the current international climate, these results would be noteworthy; when one considers the size of its media opposition and the substance of its election platform, the results are without parallel in the English speaking world. Some international labour parties have maintained solid successes in modern times; none contends with the size, reach and opposition from the major media group which prevails in Australia.
